The contact form

When you use the contact form, your name, email address, subject and message are sent to Nicholas Shakespeare by email so that he can read and reply to it. The message is not stored on this website.

To stop the form being used to send spam, the website keeps a scrambled (hashed) copy of your IP address for up to one hour, so that it can limit how many messages are sent from one connection. It is used for nothing else and is deleted automatically.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.

Films on YouTube and Vimeo

Some film pages show a still from a film or its trailer, not a live video player, so nothing is loaded from YouTube or Vimeo until you press play. When you do, the video plays from YouTube (owned by Google) in its privacy-enhanced mode, or from Vimeo with its “do not track” setting. The service you are watching on receives your IP address and basic information about your browser, and may set cookies of its own. Google’s privacy policy or Vimeo’s privacy policy then applies.

Links to other websites

Some pages link to articles, shops and programmes on other websites, such as newspapers, magazines, Amazon, the BBC and Vimeo. Those websites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.

Your rights

You can ask what information is held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, by using the contact form.
